TVK Salem Lake Soil Removal Allegation: Leader Denies Charge

A farmers' body wants action over night-time soil removal from four Salem lakes. The TVK office-bearer named in it calls the charge false.

A complaint about soil removal from four lakes in Salem district has put a local Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary in the spotlight. The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association has petitioned the district administration, while the TVK office-bearer it names says he has nothing to do with the activity. According to a report by Urban Acres, which cites Dinamalar, the claims have not been verified.

What the petition says

The petition was submitted at the Salem Collectorate by farmers' association representatives led by Salem district secretary Velan. It concerns lakes at Thadapuram, Maniyakkarampalayam, Puthupalayam and Edappadi, in the Edappadi and Konganapuram blocks.

It names Ajithkumar, the TVK Salem West district deputy secretary, and a party member identified as Chinnappaiyan. According to the report, the complaint alleges that more than 200 loads of soil were taken away at night despite instructions against using tipper trucks for such removal. It also alleges that officials were supporting the activity.

The allegations made by Velan

Speaking after he submitted the petition, Velan alleged that the soil was being removed between 11 pm and 4 am. He claimed one load was sold for Rs 5,000 and that the soil was being dug out more than two metres deep for private purposes. He also alleged that it was used to level private patta land and that several lakhs of rupees were involved.

All of this is an allegation. The report does not say that any authority has confirmed it.

Ajithkumar's response

When Dinamalar contacted him, Ajithkumar denied any link to the soil removal or to the patta land mentioned in the complaint. He called the allegations false and said political rivals were trying to blame TVK because it is a new party. He also questioned the political affiliation of the people who filed the complaint.

What is still unknown

The report does not mention any inspection, seizure, police case or administrative order after the petition. It also does not say whether the district administration has responded. The next step would be confirmation from district, revenue or police authorities on whether the four lakes have been inspected and whether any action has begun.

The petition asks for the removal to be stopped and the lakes protected. If the claims are examined, the questions would likely be practical ones: who permitted any excavation, how the lake boundaries are monitored, and how heavy vehicles were moving late at night.

Why it matters for TVK followers

Vijay launched TVK as a new political force. For a young party building its structure district by district, how local office-bearers are seen will be part of its public image. Ajithkumar's reply suggests he sees the complaint as politically motivated, though that is his claim and has not been verified.

That cuts both ways. A complaint is not a finding, and a denial is not proof either. Fans and observers are best served by waiting for what the revenue and police authorities say. The report carries no statement from Vijay or the TVK leadership on this matter, and we will update this story if one comes or if the administration responds.
